CHECKPOINT: 30 Years of Border Crossings
CHECKPOINT: 30 Years of Border Crossings is a special anniversary project running from September 2025.
Since its foundation in 1995, Border Crossings has collaborated with artists and communities across the world, from Inuit performers to Syrian refugees, from London’s Latin American and Māori communities to partners in China, India, Ghana and beyond. We have built a remarkable body of theatre, film, festivals and community projects that embrace cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue.
With the support of a professional archivist and the University of Bristol Theatre Collection, we will bring together and digitise our physical and digital records, from play texts, photographs and posters to films, oral histories and performance recordings. Volunteers will help us capture new interviews, and a commissioned researcher will write a book drawing on these rich materials.
The project will culminate in a performance event at Hoxton Hall on 28 November 2025, where artists and young people will share new work created in response to the archive. Digital versions of these performances will be made available online shortly after.
CHECKPOINT: 30 Years of Border Crossings is supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, with thanks to National Lottery players.
