CHECKPOINT: The Book
Released on July 1st 2026, CHECKPOINT is a history of the first 30 years of Border Crossings, written by Jasmin 'Ofamo'oni, a dance scholar of Tongan heritage from Aotearoa New Zealand. This carefully researched and insightful volume charts the history of the organisation over three decades, exploring the ideas behind our performances, festivals and community projects, the contexts from which they arose, and the impacts they made.
Richly illustrated with photographs from the company's numerous projects, and designed by Wassaa, this is a fitting record of Border Crossings' work across three decades
The book also includes reflective pieces by a range of commentators who have engaged with our work over the years:
- Helen Gilbert and Graham Harvey respond in different ways to the ORIGINS Festival.
- Roshni Mooneeram thinks about our work with Mauritius and China.
- Eva Urban-Devereaux recalls our collaborations with Palestinian artists, and the work of the Irish company.
- İlke Şanlıer discusses her journey alongside the company towards SUPPLIANTS OF SYRIA.
- Patron Peter Sellars contributes an inspiring Prologue.
- As an Epilogue, our Chair Jatinder Verma holds a conversation with Artistic Director Michael Walling.
